About Ratargul Swamp Forest

Most of the trees in the forest are the Korach trees. The scientific name of the trees is Pongamia PInnata. Rainy season is the best time to visit the forest. It goes under 20 to 30 feet water in rainy season. In the other seasons, the water level is about 10 feet. You have to enjoy the beauty of the forest through a boat journey. The boat journey may cost you TK 200 to 500. The boat fare depends on the length of the journey. It is safe to take permission from the forest station before the visit. They also arrange local boats which are safe for 6 to 8 people.

How to Go to Ratargul

First of all, you will have to go to the Sylhet City. You can hire an auto-rickshaw from the Ambarkhana point of Sylhet city to reach Goainghat bazaar. The CNG may cost you TK 300 to 500. Take an engine boat to reach Ratagul fromGoainghat bazaar. It will cost TK 800 to 1,000. You may need 1 to 2 hours to reach Ratargul.

Accommodation and Food

There is no accommodation facility in Ratargul. You will have to stay at Sylhet City. You should collect foods from Goainghat bazaar before the boat journey. The department of the forest is building accommodation facilities for the tourists. It will reduce the accommodation problem of the visitors. You may consider Hotel Holy Gate or Hotel Star Pacific in the Sylhet city.
