Jamdani Saree Origin

The history of Dhakai Jamdani Saree is very old. Muslin is its root. This Jamdani saree is also popular as Dhakai Jamdani. From the Mughal era, it has started its journey as Muslin. Now sarees represent one of the finest and most ancient forms of weaving that originated in Bengal. Still now, Narayanganj district is the main place for Jamdani Sari in this sub-continent.

History

Present Condition
This industry is good for the businessman. But it is not for the worker in this sector. It takes a minimum of 7 days to prepare a Jamdani Sari. The artisans have no fixed salary also.
There is a Friday Jamdani Hat at Demra. It starts at 5:00 am for 2 hours. There is a village for the Jamdani manufacturer at Taraba under Rupganj Thana in Narayanganj. Its name is Jamdani Palli.

There are many types of sarees of Jamdani. The categories depend on location, design, and, yarn. Dhakai Jamdani is one of the popular ones.
Jamdani Saree mainly made of two types of yarn. These are silk and cotton (Suti). Before buying a Jamdani, confirm about yarn and design.
